Porsche 935 K3 Porsche Kremer Racing Winner 24h Le Mans 1979 1:43 CMR
Detailed description and features of the model:
Drivers: Klaus Ludwig, Don Whittington, Bill Whittington
With three hours to go, the Kremer-Porsche was in first place with a 16-lap lead. Then came the shock when Don Whittington was forced out with a broken timing belt. The American lay down in the dirt under the car in the pouring rain and managed to lever the spare belt onto the pulley. The engine started, but the repair was short-lived, as the belt came off again in the Mulsanne corner. Then a constant radio conversation began between the pits and Whittington. The pit crew, using a replacement engine as a template, tried to explain to Whittington over the radio how he could fit the spare V-belt as a spare timing belt so he could at least make it to the pits. After several attempts, Whittington managed this, half-lying with his face in a puddle of water, and the car found its way into the pits. After more than an hour of repairs, the Kremer Porsche rejoined the race, still with a three-lap lead. In the end, Kremer's 935 K3 won at Le Mans against all the factory teams competing and thus went down in history
