The 1971 American film Le Mans remains a cult classic in the motorsports film genre, fittingly showcasing the Porsche 917 in the Gulf livery. Lead actor and co-producer Steve McQueen had the idea of producing a documentary about the 24 Hours of Le Mans. For the race footage, the Porsche 908/02, driven by Herbert Linge and Jonathan Williams, was equipped with three cameras during the real 1970 race and produced over 10,000 meters of film footage. The team even managed to finish the race after the 24 hours. However, a lot of time was lost due to the time-consuming film reel changes during pit stops.
