Drivers: Volker Weidler, Johnny Herbert, Bertrand Gachot

On June 23, 1991, Johnny Herbert was in the car and raced across the finish line at around 4:00 p.m., giving Mazda its first Le Mans victory. However, there was no podium celebration for his victory. Herbert was so dehydrated that only adrenaline allowed him to finish the race. As the team proceeded to the awards ceremony, Herbert was lying unconscious in the racetrack's medical center. Volker Weidler also suffered permanent damage when he lost an earplug during the race. The extremely loud Wankel engine in the 787B caused Weidler permanent hearing damage. As a result, he retired from motorsports completely in 1992. He suffered from balance problems that made it impossible for him to actively participate in motorsports.
